Afton Man Charged With Rape After Posing as Teenager to Target Minors

New York State Police have arrested Christian Carolan, 21, of Afton, on multiple charges after he allegedly posed as a 15- or 16-year-old to contact and engage in sexual activity with underage victims, wbng.com reports.

An investigation by the State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation at Sidney established that Carolan had sexual relations with a victim under the age of 13. During at least one encounter, the victim was forced to perform sexual acts, police said.

Investigators located Carolan at an Afton residence on Thursday, 1 October. Upon being informed of his arrest, he allegedly resisted and kicked an investigator's vehicle, causing damage.

Following processing at SP Sidney, Carolan was transported to Chenango County Jail for centralised arraignment. He was remanded on $40,000 cash bail, an $80,000 insurance company bail bond, or a $120,000 partially secured bond.

State police have identified at least one victim but believe further victims may have been in contact with Carolan. Authorities have released his photograph to assist anyone who may have interacted with him in identifying him.
