A Jamaican, a Bahamian and a Cuban national are among 17 people identified by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in a nationwide crackdown on alleged voter fraud, caribbeannationalweekly.com reports.
ICE spokesperson Micah Bock issued the agency's statement on Wednesday, Oct. 28, naming Lawrence Cole of Jamaica, Anthony Tyrone Higgs of The Bahamas and Carlos Javier Alamo-Sorino of Cuba among those accused of illegally casting ballots in US elections.
Cole, who holds a felony conviction for drug selling dating to the Clinton administration, is alleged to have voted illegally in the 2004 and 2008 general elections as well as the 2008 presidential primary.
Higgs, a lawful permanent resident originally from The Bahamas, is accused of voting illegally in the 2020 election. His criminal record, according to ICE, includes armed robbery with a deadly weapon, grand larceny, domestic violence, simple assault and resisting arrest.
Alamo-Sorino, a Cuban national, admitted to casting a ballot illegally in an election, ICE said. His record includes convictions for sexual assault, a further sexual offence, robbery, larceny and harassing communication.
ICE described the cases as part of a wider effort to investigate and prosecute individuals accused of violating US election laws.
