Detroit Man Kills Flea Market Vendor in Dispute Over Power Washer Refund

A Detroit man has been charged with first-degree murder after allegedly driving a van into a vendor at a Warren flea market, killing him, clickondetroit.com reports.

Zarick Lamont Johnson faces charges of first-degree murder, assault or assault and battery, and a felony offence involving the use of a motor vehicle in the commission of a crime.

Prosecutors say Johnson became involved in an argument on 26 September with brothers Senad and Mirhad Cehic over a power washer refund. He allegedly assaulted Senad Cehic, 53, before using his 2004 Chevrolet Express van to strike Mirhad Cehic, 54, twice. Mirhad Cehic was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Johnson was arraigned on 29 September and was denied bond. He is due back in court on 13 October.

Mirhad Cehic was a Bosnian immigrant who spent many weekends working at the flea market to support his family. His wife, Sanela Grcic, described the loss as particularly devastating, noting that her father had also died just two months earlier.

"My father died two months ago. Now my husband died," Grcic said.

She described her husband as a devoted partner. "He's 57 years old, sweet old guy. He was a good husband," she said.

Cehic is survived by his wife, three adult children, and two teenagers. The family has established a GoFundMe campaign to cover funeral expenses and ongoing family support.
