Murder arrest made after Shaker Heights teen shot dead in Cleveland

An 18-year-old East Cleveland man has been charged with aggravated murder in connection with the shooting death of Jaiden Tunson, a 17-year-old Shaker Heights High School student. Cleveland.com reports that Khalil Woods Jr. was taken into custody in the early hours of Saturday morning following a traffic stop in University Heights, Ohio.

University Heights police pulled over a gray Kia around 1:30 a.m. near the intersection of Warrensville Center Road and Hillbrook Road after the vehicle ran a red light. Woods, who was a passenger, resisted arrest before officers took him into custody. He was subsequently transferred to Cleveland police.

Tunson was shot Monday outside an apartment complex on South Moreland Boulevard on Cleveland's East Side. A warrant charging Woods with aggravated murder was filed Thursday, according to Cleveland Municipal Court records. No motive has been identified.

The killing prompted widespread grief in the Shaker Heights community. The high school, middle school, and public library were closed on Tuesday. Students held a walkout on Wednesday to protest gun violence.

Shaker Heights Superintendent David Glasner described Tunson, a senior, as well-known and closely connected to both students and staff throughout the district.

"His loss is felt deeply across the Shaker Heights schools," Glasner said.
