Indianapolis teen charged with murder after shooting sister's boyfriend over flirting allegations

A 19-year-old man has been charged with murder in Indianapolis after he allegedly shot and killed his sister's boyfriend during a confrontation over flirtatious text messages, katv.com reports.

The fatal shooting took place at around 7:30 p.m. on 15 April. Officers responding to reports of gunfire found 22-year-old Robert D. Golliday in critical condition. He died shortly afterwards.

According to court documents reviewed by WTHR, Golliday's girlfriend told investigators that her brother arrived at their apartment wanting to speak to Golliday about some "grown man (expletive)." The two men stepped into the hallway together, and moments later she heard multiple gunshots.

She also told investigators she had since learned that Golliday had been sending flirtatious text messages to one of her relatives since January, and that her brother had likely discovered this and come to confront him.

A second witness inside the apartment said she heard shouting in the hallway immediately before the shots rang out.

Police tracked the suspect using an automated licence plate reader system, which linked a vehicle associated with him to his whereabouts. When officers moved in to arrest him, he attempted to flee by jumping from a third-floor window before being taken into custody.

He is currently facing a preliminary charge of murder.
