Gunfire and standoff on Village Meadows Drive ends in arrest

A 46-year-old man, identified as John Martin, was taken into custody on Saturday, 24 October, after firing gunshots in a residential area of Fountain, Colorado, and barricading himself inside his home, fox21news.com reports.

Officers from the Fountain Police Department (FPD) responded at around 2:15 a.m. to the 7300 block of Village Meadows Drive, near Fountain Mesa Road, following reports of shots fired in the neighbourhood. Martin was uncooperative upon contact, prompting officers to establish containment and deploy specialised units.

Negotiation attempts proved unsuccessful. Officers subsequently executed warrants and used approved distraction devices and gas deployment to safely remove Martin from the property. He was medically evaluated before being booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center.

Martin faces charges of attempted first-degree assault, disorderly conduct, and several additional offences.
