Sicklerville Wawa shooting: local man faces attempted murder charge
A 20-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder following a shooting inside a Wawa convenience store in Sicklerville, New Jersey, on Sunday evening, 6abc.com reports.
Marcus L. Norman, a Sicklerville resident, faces additional multiple weapons offences in connection with the incident, according to the Camden County Prosecutor's Office.
The shooting occurred at around 9 p.m. at the Wawa on the 400 block of Sicklerville Road. Investigators say Norman became involved in a dispute with another man that escalated into a physical altercation. Surveillance footage shows Norman threw the first punch before drawing a firearm and shooting the other man.
Norman also sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his left hand. Officers arriving at the scene found him with those injuries and transported him to Cooper University Hospital.
Police subsequently learned that a second 20-year-old man had walked into Jefferson Hospital in Washington Township with a gunshot wound; he was later transferred to Cooper as well.
Authorities confirmed that approximately five to ten customers and at least three employees were inside the store when the shooting took place. None of the customers or staff suffered physical injuries. A handgun was recovered at the scene.
Norman is currently being held pending a detention hearing.
