Fatal stabbing in Far Rockaway ends with suspect's rooftop plunge
A Queens man stabbed his girlfriend to death inside their Far Rockaway apartment before jumping from the roof of the seven-story building as officers responded, nydailynews.com reports.
Police arrived at the building on Neilson Street near Dinsmore Avenue around 11:50 a.m. Wednesday to find the 33-year-old suspect, covered in blood, standing on a roof ledge. Officers attempted to talk him down, but he jumped, plunging all seven stories.
Medics transported him in critical condition to Mount Sinai South Nassau. Beyond injuries from the fall, he had slash wounds on his wrists, ankles and torso, according to a police source.
Inside the apartment, officers found his 31-year-old girlfriend, Pheona Premraj, dead. She had been stabbed in the face, neck, chest and abdomen. The knife was found beside her body.
A law enforcement source said the attack occurred during a domestic assault. The couple shared the apartment.
A 64-year-old neighbor said the pair had been heard arguing regularly for years. "When they first moved in, they were good. But then three years ago, that's when the fighting started," said the neighbor, who asked not to be named. "He asked her to leave almost three years ago. I heard him say, 'You need to go,' and she says, 'No, I'm not going nowhere.'"
Police confirmed they had been called to the building as many as six times over the past three years in response to reported "family disputes" between the couple. No arrests were made during any of those visits.
"The real bad part of the fighting started about a year ago," the neighbor added. "The day of the incident, I didn't hear anything."
The neighbor described the suspect as "polite," saying he "used to hold the elevator door open." Premraj's father declined to comment. Charges against the suspect were pending at the time of reporting.
