The New York Police Department is asking the public for help locating a 12-year-old boy missing from the Bedford Park section of the Bronx, Eyewitness News Bahamas reports.
Alexander Almonte, of 2815 Grand Concourse, was last seen leaving his home on Saturday, July 4, at approximately 7 a.m. Police describe him as Hispanic, around 4 feet tall, weighing approximately 150 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a black hoodie and dark-colored pants.
On Thursday, July 9, Devin Whitehead — who works at a newsstand at the Bedford Park Boulevard subway station on the 4 train line — told the Norwood News that he recognized Alexander from his photo and sees him at the station regularly.
"Alexander Almonte normally comes off the train around 5 / 5.30 [p.m.]," said Whitehead, whose parents own the newsstand.
Whitehead described the boy as polite and friendly. "He comes and normally says hi. He would come and buy something or if he doesn't have anything, I give him something. Seems like a nice kid from what I've seen. He introduced me to some of his friends as well."
Whitehead expressed hope that Alexander is safe. "Hopefully, he's fine. Hopefully he's at a friend's house. I hope it's nothing bad," he said. "He's nice. He's polite every time I see him."
Whitehead noted that Alexander lives only a few blocks from the station. He also shared video footage with the Norwood News showing him searching the station for the boy and speaking with MTA workers to ask whether they had seen him.
"Hopefully the NYPD finds him or he comes home or some of the community members spot him and recognize him," Whitehead said. "He's just an all around good kid, and I just send my warm regards and prayers to the family of Alexander Almonte."
