Oregon School Shooting: Teen Gunman Kills Four at Elementary School
A 16-year-old former student opened fire inside Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon, on Thursday, killing three children and one teacher before being shot dead by a parent. The young victims were aged 5, 8, and 11, according to efsyn.gr.
Law enforcement officials said the attacker was Griffin J. John, who had previously attended the same school. The rampage ended when the father of two pupils at the institution chased the gunman and fired at him. The teenager died before police officers could arrive at the scene, efsyn.gr reported.
Neighbors described the suspect as a reclusive and withdrawn figure. One resident, speaking anonymously to AFP, said the youth always wore dark clothing and appeared sullen and brooding. The neighbor recalled that the teen never greeted anyone and seemed deeply isolated.
Local residents told reporters that the boy lived with his mother in near-total seclusion and that the pair rarely left their home. One witness remarked that the house was always quiet, as if nobody lived there. Another neighbor expressed shock, stating she never imagined the teenager possessed a firearm. She noted that the walls were wooden and that he could have fired toward nearby homes, as cited by efsyn.gr.
