North Bay Village police officer faces battery charge after domestic dispute with boyfriend

A North Bay Village police officer currently serving on probation was arrested Tuesday following an alleged domestic dispute at her apartment, cbsnews.com reports. Marcia Sangronis, a resident of Hialeah, spent Tuesday night in custody before bonding out of jail.

According to an arrest report, the incident began after Sangronis's boyfriend of two years attempted to leave the apartment and said he wanted to end the relationship. Sangronis reportedly told him, "You do not get to leave."

The victim stated she scratched him multiple times on his arms, face, and back and bit his left forearm on several occasions. Officers documented three bite marks on his left arm. The victim also alleged that Sangronis had been physically and emotionally abusive throughout their two-year relationship.

Sangronis appeared before a judge on Wednesday. The charge was reduced from aggravated battery to simple battery, a misdemeanor, and bond was set at $1,000. The judge ordered her to have no contact with the victim.

North Bay Village police announced that Sangronis has been relieved of duty with pay. The department stated it holds all personnel to the highest standards of conduct and expects full accountability for actions both on and off duty.

The arrest report includes a section containing Sangronis's account of the incident, provided during questioning by Hialeah police, but that portion was redacted. Her family declined to comment on the allegations.

CBS News Miami was present outside the Hialeah family home following her release from jail. Sangronis did not speak to reporters and went directly inside.
