Two teens arrested over alleged plot to shoot Corona High School, California

Two 15-year-old girls from Riverside County, California, have been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit murder after months of online discussions about carrying out a shooting at Corona High School, yahoo.com reports.

The investigation was triggered on 6 October when the FBI alerted the Corona Police Department to social media communications indicating a possible threat to the school. A collaborative inquiry led to the immediate arrest of the first suspect, a student at Corona High School itself.

Detectives then executed multiple search warrants covering electronic devices, communications records and several homes across Riverside County. That work led investigators to a second 15-year-old girl, who attended nearby Norco High School.

Evidence showed the two teenagers had spent several months researching previous school shootings and discussing how they could stage an attack at Corona High School on an unspecified future date. Investigators said the girls had also explored ways to obtain weapons, though they had not managed to acquire any. No weapons were recovered during the searches.

Corona High School serves more than 2,000 students in grades 9 through 12. Police have not disclosed what may have motivated the alleged plot, nor whether any specific individuals at the school were identified as intended targets.

Both girls remain in custody. Authorities have not released their identities because they are minors. The Riverside County District Attorney's Office is reviewing the case for possible charges.

The investigation is continuing in coordination with the FBI, the Riverside County Sheriff's Office and the Corona-Norco Unified School District. Corona Police urged parents and students to report any suspicious activity or concerning statements immediately.
