Two Philadelphia police officers were shot in the early hours of Saturday morning while responding to a call in West Philadelphia, 6abc.com reports.

Officers were dispatched to the 100 block of North 52nd Street at 12:21 a.m. At 1:02 a.m., a fellow officer discovered the two wounded colleagues on a porch at that address. Both were transported by police to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where they were treated for gunshot wounds. Their conditions were not immediately known.

Sources told Action News that the shooter fled down an alleyway after the initial shooting, firing multiple times at other officers in the process.

Investigators subsequently surrounded a house on the 100 block of North Wilton Street, where they believed the suspect was located. Sources confirmed to Action News that the suspect was taken into custody, though the exact location of the arrest had not yet been established.

A staging area was set up at 52nd and Race streets. Police placed the entire surrounding neighbourhood under lockdown as the investigation continued.
