Vermont State Police have named the officer and victim involved in a police shooting in Williston that took place around 4:50 a.m. on Thursday along Route 2A, vtdigger.org reports.

Officer Ethan Favreau of the Williston Police Department shot and injured Michael McGovern, 52, of St. George, while responding to a reported road hazard. No charges have been filed and no one is in custody, according to a Vermont State Police press release issued Friday.

McGovern approached the hazard before the shooting, but further details "remain under investigation," said Maj. Ashley Barnes, commander of the state police criminal division, at a press conference Thursday.

Both men were taken to the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington. McGovern was treated for a gunshot wound to the hip; Favreau was evaluated for a minor injury. Both were subsequently discharged.

A second Williston officer was present at the scene but did not discharge a weapon. That officer has not been publicly identified. Favreau has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
