Uruguayan drug trafficker murdered in Buenos Aires: $500,000 bounty offered on his death

Hired killers received $10,000 each for murdering Uruguayan drug baron in Palermo

In early October, Carlos Andrés Migales Viera, 31, and leader of the drug trafficking organisation "La Mafilia", was murdered in an apartment on Costa Rica street at number 5600, in the Buenos Aires neighbourhood of Palermo. According to reporting by subrayado.com.uy, his rivals in Uruguay were offering $500,000 for his death, whilst the hired killers who carried out the crime in Argentina would collect $10,000 each.

Migales Viera headed "La Mafilia", an organisation dedicated to drug trafficking in the Montevideo areas of Villa Española and Marconi. He had a criminal record in Uruguay dating from 2014 for homicide, drug trafficking and robbery.

The Uruguayan had crossed into Argentina after discovering a satellite tracker installed in his vehicle, a sign that he was being followed by his enemies. The discovery aggravates the situation: the dispute over the drug market had moved from Montevideo to Buenos Aires.

Three people entered the apartment and shot him at close range. Migales attempted to take refuge in the bathroom, but a shot to the abdomen proved fatal. Subrayado accessed a photograph of the bathroom door, riddled with bullet holes.

To gain entry, the attackers used a four-digit code on the building's electronic lock. During their escape, the car they had prepared to flee in would not start, so the hired killers were forced to flee on foot. During that flight, one of them discarded the weapon used: a 9 mm pistol with a silencer, which was found and seized by police.

The investigation was placed under the charge of judge Damián Kirszenbaum, who ordered the processing and remand in custody of two young Argentine men: Cristian Nahuel Paiva, 21, and Ulises Aladro, 22. Both were charged with homicide and illegal possession of a firearm.

Argentine authorities continue to search for two more people: a man who also entered the building and the car driver. One of them has yet to be identified; the other is Argentine and was exposed because he forgot his mobile telephone inside the vehicle.

Fabiana González Raggio, attorney for Migales' wife, is acting as a liaison between what is happening in Argentina and Migales' family circle in Uruguay. González Raggio stated that the family wishes to pursue the case to its ultimate conclusion.
