Man detained with knife after making death threats at Sofia Mall
Sofia District Prosecutor's Office has brought criminal charges against a 68-year-old man accused of making threats to kill and committing assault against staff members in a commercial establishment and a police inspector in the capital, according to 24 Hours.
The incident took place on 22 May at approximately 09:10 at a retail park in Sofia. The accused first drew a knife and threatened a shop worker with the words "I will kill you! I will stab you!", then chased him whilst holding the weapon.
Shortly afterwards, the same man turned his attention to a second employee in another unit of the shopping complex. There he stated "I will stab you! I will cut you up" and swung a knife at him.
Officers from the Interior Ministry from District 06 – SDVR arrived at the scene. The man did not comply with police orders and attempted to escape. During his detention, he made a threat towards a police inspector as well — waving the knife and declaring "I will stab you".
A pre-trial investigation has been opened against him for three offences. The man has a criminal record. On the prosecutor's request, Sofia District Court imposed the most serious measure of restraint — detention in custody.
