Kandev, who was formerly employed by the Ministry of Interior, posted video material online revealing harassment by a uniformed officer. According to the man, the physical assaults and intimidation began as far back as 2016, reports "24 Hours".

In the recording, the former ministry employee recounts that he went to the Sofia district of Simeonovo with the intention of participating in local elections. He was met there by a representative of the Interior Ministry, who warned him that he would not see his family members if he did not withdraw. The man in uniform struck him and attempted to force him to stand down.

Kandev replied that his decision had already been made. The violence against him then continued. The victim explains that the mistreatment did not stop in 2016 – the attacker continued to harass him while he was proud of his son.

In his post, Kandev directs a message to his current colleagues at the ministry. He emphasises that their work requires integrity. According to him, any insincerity, hypocrisy and pretence are felt immediately. On the street you cannot hide your true nature – after just 20 seconds the person you are speaking to understands who you are.

"Speak with your heart and soul. If that is in you, others will understand you," the former Interior Ministry employee adds.
