According to focus-news.net, two residents of the Montana village of Borovtsi have been arrested following threats made to kill a police officer from the Regional Police Directorate in Berkovitsa.

On 1 June 2026, officers from the directorate stopped a 34-year-old driver of a Daewoo Lanos from the Montana village of Gabrovnitsa in Borovtsi. A breath test showed 0.77 per mille alcohol in exhaled air.

While the police officers were processing the documents, a group of four or five people approached them. Two of them made threats against the life and health of one of the officers. Two additional police units from the Regional Police Directorate in Berkovitsa arrived at the scene and established the identity of the men — local residents aged 42 and 37.

By police order, the two men were detained for 24 hours under the Law on the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Pre-trial proceedings were initiated under Article 144, Paragraph 3, Point 1 in connection with Article 144, Paragraph 2 of the Penal Code. The information was provided by the Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Montana.
