Manager of Burghas Water Company Released from Custody Against €2,000 Guarantee
The magistrates overturned the decision of the lower court and imposed a lighter sanction on the head of the water supply company in Burghas Tsvetан Mirchev. Instead of being held in custody, he will pay a guarantee of €2,000 to be released, according to BTV.
Mirchev has been charged with wilful mismanagement. His accomplice Ichо Boev is accused as an accessory to activities involving cleaning and surveying of water sources.
The prosecution claims that the two caused damage of €303,000 to the company by concluding a contract with an external company to clean 70 rainwater wells in the Burghas region. The total value of the public procurement reached €1 million.
According to the investigators, the inspection at the water company began following a submitted report. Mirchev claims that the report comes from one of his subordinates, against whom a dismissal procedure has been initiated. His lawyers characterised the arrest as political pressure.
