Four arrested in Riberalta linked to Comando Vermelho for homicide

Three Brazilian citizens and one Bolivian were apprehended in Riberalta, department of Beni, for their alleged participation in the shooting murder of Freddy González Bazán, whose body was found on 17 September. According to vision360.bo, police commander Adrián Álvarez linked the four detainees on Tuesday to Comando Vermelho, describing its local cell as a "narcoterrorist cell".
Álvarez explained that following the homicide, specialised units were deployed to Riberalta to clarify the case. The investigations revealed that the suspects had their operational base in Brazil, although they had also established themselves in Bolivia to carry out criminal activities.
"The murder on 17 September has its connection to drug trafficking activities, both victim and perpetrators are persons linked to this illicit activity," Álvarez stated.
The detainees were identified as Diego O. E., 19 years old, Bolivian, with a criminal record and previous detentions; Gean Carlos A. D. S., 50 years old, Brazilian; Gutierre P. E., 37 years old, also Brazilian and with a record; and Francimar Gabriel DS, 35 years old, who is serving an 11-year prison sentence for various offences in Brazil.
During the police operation, two 9-millimetre pistols with 21 rounds, one .32-calibre revolver with 11 rounds and seven mobile phones of different brands were seized. Additionally, a Hilux pick-up truck with a report of theft in Argentina was confiscated, Álvarez detailed.
The commander reported that preventive detention of the four arrested individuals would be requested at Chonchocoro prison, on the grounds of preventing them from continuing to generate fear among the population.
For his part, government minister Marco Oviedo announced the reinforcement of the police contingent in Riberalta, Guayaramerín and Cobija. Oviedo also noted that work is being carried out in international cooperation to install two elite units and develop advanced specialisation courses for officers. One of these units will be based in Santa Ana, Beni, and the second will operate in Santa Cruz, in the area between San Ignacio and San Matías.
