Police seize 336 kilos of marijuana in Puerto Pailas, Santa Cruz
A truck driver was detained following a routine check at Puerto Pailas with 336 kilos of marijuana hidden in the vehicle. The estimated loss to drug trafficking organisations is Bs 406.445.
Truck intercepted in early morning with 280 packages of drugs
A routine patrol by the Highway Police at Puerto Pailas, a municipality in the Santa Cruz region of Cotoca, led to the detention of a driver and the seizure of 336.350 kilograms of marijuana, according to lapatria.bo. The operation was carried out in the early morning hours of Monday, 28 September and resulted in an estimated loss of Bs 406.445 to drug trafficking organisations.
Officers from the Highway Police intercepted a Foton model 2024 truck, yellow in colour, with registration plate 6457-NUA. The driver, identified as Fabio Luis Q. C., displayed nervous behaviour during the intervention and was unable to present his driving licence or the required documentation, which aroused suspicion among the officers.
Upon conducting a thorough search, the officers found 25 white jute bags concealed behind empty beer boxes. The bags contained packages with a greenish substance. The Special Force to Combat Drug Trafficking (FELCN) was called immediately to verify the discovery.
A field test confirmed that the substance was marijuana. The cargo was distributed across 280 packages with a total weight of exactly 336.350 grams.
Colonel Edson Omar Fernández Molina, newly appointed departmental commander of the Santa Cruz Police, emphasised the relevance of this type of intervention. "This type of operation will be carried out all the time," he stated, and specified that the actions are being executed under the functional direction of the Public Ministry. The interventions will cover roads and rural and urban areas of the department, including Chiquitania, Northern Integrated Region and the Santa Cruz Valleys.
The detained driver, the controlled substance and the vehicle were handed over to the competent authorities to advance investigations into the origin and destination of the cargo and possible involvement of other persons.
