Feminicide in El Alto: 19-year-old woman dies from trauma; suspect detained five days later
Edith A. C. F. M., aged 19, died in the city of El Alto following severe physical assault attributed to her partner, Alan A. R. F. M., aged 25. The man was apprehended and the Public Ministry launched investigations into the alleged crime of feminicide. According to El Deber, Bolivia now reaches 66 feminicide victims in 2026.
According to preliminary investigation by the Public Ministry, the events occurred on 30 September in the Cristal 1 zone of the San Andrés Urbanisation, District 8 of El Alto.
The prosecutor assigned to the case, Carla Juana Machicao Jiménez, indicated that the suspect had consumed alcoholic drinks before beating the victim. The injuries caused affected different parts of the young woman's body. Following the assault, the man allegedly transported Edith to his home, where she died.
The forensic medical autopsy established that the cause of death was post-haemorrhagic hypovolaemic shock, liver injury and blunt abdominal trauma, according to the Public Ministry's report.
The complaint was formalised only on 5 October, five days after the incident, when the suspect's mother became aware of what had occurred and took her son to the Integral Police Station (EPI) Tarapacá. Once at those facilities, the suspect made statements with contradictions and inaccuracies, according to the Public Ministry, which led to his apprehension and subsequent referral to the Public Ministry.
The evidence gathered — including the autopsy results and statements from the detainee — will be evaluated to establish the exact circumstances of the assault and determine the criminal responsibility of the main suspect.
The Departmental Public Ministry of La Paz confirmed that, with this new case recorded in El Alto, Bolivia has accumulated 66 feminicide victims during 2026.
