Mexican sentenced to 6 years imprisonment for methamphetamine trafficking at Pudahuel
Santiago's First Criminal Oral Trial Court sentenced Francisco Arredondo Osuna, a Mexican citizen, to six years imprisonment as the author of the completed crime of drug trafficking, according to puranoticia.pnt.cl. The offence was committed in October 2024 at Pudahuel airport.
In a unanimous ruling, the court also imposed on Arredondo Osuna the legal accessories of absolute permanent disqualification from holding public office and positions, disqualification of his political rights and absolute disqualification from regulated professions for the duration of the sentence. A fine equivalent to 40 UTM payable to the State was also added.
Once the sentence becomes final, the court ordered the taking of biological samples from the convicted person to determine his genetic profile and incorporate it into the National Register of DNA from Convicted Persons. Likewise, the forfeiture of money and items seized during police proceedings was ordered, along with the destruction of the drugs and their containers.
Because he is a foreign national, the court notified the National Migration Service of the issuance of the guilty verdict. Arredondo Osuna is deprived of liberty at CDP Santiago 1.
The case details indicate that on 16 February 2024, the defendant was detained at the airport with two glass bottles and four plastic bottles containing a colourless liquid. Field tests yielded a positive result for methamphetamine, with a total gross weight of 6,400 grammes.
The sentence for a second Mexican citizen charged in the same case will be announced on 16 November.
