Death of Yordan González Herrera in Chillán shocks his family
According to t13.cl, Yordan González Herrera, aged 21, died in the early hours of Sunday 1 November at the Clínico Herminda Martín Hospital in Chillán, Ñuble Region, after remaining hospitalised in critical condition since Friday 30 October. The young man, a security guard at a university in the city and father of a three-year-old girl, had been admitted to the facility with a serious stab wound to one of his legs, which necessitated his transfer to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
The circumstances of the incident point to an argument with his partner inside the family home. According to the details presented by prosecutor Mary Carmen Farías Valenzuela, during the fight the victim allegedly struck the woman in the face, causing her minor injuries. Subsequently, the accused allegedly took a butterfly-type pocket knife and wounded Yordan in the left leg, causing a life-threatening vascular injury.
The young man's family stated, according to Chillán's Radio Contacto, that the origin of the dispute would be linked to a PlayStation video game. However, the exact circumstances of the incident do not yet have official confirmation and the possible involvement of the partner remains a hypothesis within the framework of the investigation.
Formalisation and precautionary measures
Yordan's partner, aged 22, was detained on the same Sunday of his death and formally charged on Monday before the Court of Guarantee for the crimes of serious assault in a context of domestic violence, in formal concurrence with manslaughter. The court issued a precautionary measure prohibiting her from leaving the country and set a four-month timeline for the development of the investigation, conducted by the Public Prosecutor's Office together with the PDI Homicide Brigade.
The mother demands justice
Yordan's mother publicly questioned why the accused remains at liberty and demanded justice for her son's death. In conversation with the programme Contigo en Directo, she stated: "I am in a terrible state, I want justice to be done, I want this to be clarified and for my son's name to be cleared because there is speculation and people are saying many things that are not true."
She added: "At the very least, let her receive her minimum sentence, but not serve it in freedom, because what kind of example will that set for young people and future relationships?"
Regarding the sequence of events, the mother provided her own account: "My son was celebrating a goal he scored in the PlayStation game and he approached her and grabbed her hair as if playing, and she responded aggressively and gave him a strong punch to the chest." According to her account, after that first assault the two of them argued, they calmed down briefly and then resumed the fight. "She had a knife, she had it in a rucksack, she approached my son and stabbed him," she concluded.
The mother also asserted that there are witnesses to alleged prior episodes of violence in the relationship, background information which, according to her, could prove crucial for the progress of the investigation.
