On Monday, a mass collision occurred in Korunovační Street in the capital. Behind its occurrence stood a thirty-year-old foreigner whose vehicle struck four personal cars. Police officers arrived at the scene immediately.
The driver, tested on the first attempt, refused both an alcohol and drugs test. Later, however, he changed his mind and took the test. The result was positive for methamphetamine, a stimulant substance. Subsequently, law enforcement officers took him to hospital, where they took a blood sample for further laboratory analysis.
"We are investigating the entire case as suspicion of endangerment under the influence of an addictive substance," police spokesperson Richard Hrdina said. According to information available from Novinky, the incident occurred without injuries.
The man was detained at the scene. Police are now investigating the circumstances of the accident as well as how long before driving he had consumed the banned substance. Driving a vehicle under the influence of drugs constitutes a criminal offence in the Czech Republic, which carries the penalty of deprivation of liberty for up to one year.
