Eight people and seven firms face charges over public tender manipulation in Pardubice
Police have charged eight individuals and seven legal entities in connection with allegations of interference in public tenders at district VI office in Pardubice. The investigation has been ongoing since April of last year.
Eight people and seven firms face charges over public tender manipulation in Pardubice
Police have initiated criminal prosecution against eight individuals and seven companies for allegedly abusing public tenders at the city district VI office in Pardubice. Police spokeswoman Dita Holečková announced the case on social media platform X on Friday, which detectives have been investigating since April last year.
The accused face criminal proceedings for several criminal offences including conferring an advantage in the award of a public tender, abuse of authority by a public official, bribery and accepting a bribe. Police have declined to reveal specifically who amongst the accused is involved. The spokeswoman also did not state whether any of them face detention.
A police operation at the Pardubice district VI office took place on 10 April last year. According to Czech Television, detectives also conducted a search at the home of Aleš Herák, the office secretary. Following the police action, Herák stated that all employees had signed a confidentiality agreement and could not comment on the matter.
District mayor Petr Králíček (Pardubice for People) did not answer his phone on Friday and did not respond to a text message. His deputy Robert Klčo (ANO) stated that he had no substantial information about the operation. "The municipal office is functioning for citizens without restrictions. Until we have more information, I will not comment further on the matter," wrote Klčo.
Even during last year's operation, mayor Králíček claimed that he was cooperating with police and that none of the officials had been charged. "I have no idea what the problem could be. Police did not clarify what this is about," he said at the time.
