Number of foreigners with forged documents in the Czech Republic rises sharply; police intensify checks
Police in the Czech Republic have tripled the number of residence checks on foreigners over the past four years. This intensified effort has brought results – authorities uncover roughly twice as many people each year who are present in the territory of the state with forged documents.
Forged documents represent a serious problem. Foreign nationals can obtain not only a false travel passport, but also a driving licence. The price of these forgeries ranges in the order of several thousand crowns.
The increased number of checks and uncovered cases points to a growing trend of abuse of forged documents within migration to the Czech Republic. Security services thus face an increasingly demanding task in verifying the authenticity of identity documents.
