Police charge eight people and seven firms in Pardubice district contract case
Criminal investigators have initiated prosecution against eight people and seven companies in connection with alleged manipulation in the awarding of public contracts in the municipal district VI of Pardubice. This was announced on Friday by police spokeswoman Dita Holečková on social media platform X.
Detectives have been investigating the case since April of last year. According to Holečková, the charged individuals are being prosecuted for the criminal offences of securing an advantage in the award of a public contract, abuse of official authority, bribery and acceptance of a bribe. Police refused to release the specific names of the accused individuals or companies.
A raid on the municipal district office took place on 10 April 2024. At that time, media reported on a house search at the residence of Aleš Herák, secretary of the office. After the raid, mayor Petr Králíček (Pardubice for People) stated that all employees had signed a confidentiality agreement and could not comment on the matter. "We are cooperating with police, no one has been charged. I have no idea what the problem could be," Králíček said shortly after the raid.
Now, after more than a year of investigation, police have formally laid charges. On Friday, mayor Králíček did not answer his phone and did not respond to a text message. His deputy Robert Klčo (ANO) stated that he has no substantial information and the office is functioning normally for citizens.
Whether any of the accused face remand in custody, spokeswoman Holečková did not state. She said further details would be provided when possible.
