Foreign national dies from knife wound in Prague; attacker detained at scene
A violent incident occurred in the city centre in the early hours of Sunday in which a young foreign national was killed. An altercation between two men took place outside a music club on Trojická Street. One of them drew a knife and inflicted fatal wounds on his opponent.
Prague law enforcement arrived at the scene shortly after one o'clock in the morning. "We intervened on Trojická Street, where a conflict between two men broke out. One of them used a cold weapon against the other," described the situation Jan Rybanský, spokesman for the municipal police force. The injuries sustained by the victim proved to be fatal.
Paramedics made unsuccessful efforts to save the victim's life. "We resuscitated the man for over half an hour. We secured the airways, stopped the bleeding, inserted an intravenous line and administered medication. Despite all efforts, he died at the scene," stated Jana Poštová, spokeswoman for the Prague rescue service. The second participant in the incident sustained a hand injury and also required treatment.
Both men were approximately twenty years old. Officers managed to detain the suspected perpetrator immediately after the incident. "At this time, the man is suspected of committing the criminal offence of murder," Rybanský added.
Prague detectives are now investigating the case. Further circumstances of the tragedy, including the motive for the attack, are the subject of the ongoing investigation.
