In mid-June, a special order unit patrol set out in the Moravian-Silesian region to Orlová. The aim was to check a vehicle which operators knew was being driven by a twenty-nine-year-old man who had been ordered by the court not to use any motor vehicle. As soon as the patrol spotted him and ordered him to stop, he accelerated and attempted to disappear.
The pursuit led through Rychvald all the way to Ostrava, where the man found himself in a dead-end street. At the end of it stood a barrier, which he attempted to bypass by driving off the asphalt. However, the terrain was too steep – the vehicle overturned into a ditch and ended up on its side.
Police officers immediately rushed to the crashed car. The driver climbed out through the window and stopped resisting. He was alone in the vehicle. A database check confirmed that the ban was indeed valid. A preliminary breath test did not show any alcohol; he refused to take a drug test.
The man was taken to the station. Officers initiated criminal proceedings on suspicion of the offence of obstructing the execution of an official decision. If found guilty, the court could sentence him to up to two years in prison. Details were published by Novinky.cz.
