In the early hours of Sunday morning, a teenager led police on a chase in Düsseldorf. The two-wheeled vehicle he was riding had previously been reported as stolen.
According to Ddorf-Aktuell, officers from Wersten station noticed the driver of a moped for a traffic violation. When they attempted to stop him for a check, the 16-year-old accelerated. His 13-year-old passenger remained with him.
The pursuit at times went over pavements and in the opposite direction of traffic. On Mindener Straße, police attempted to stop the scooter. In doing so, the driver struck an officer. All three people involved – the teenager, his companion and the struck police officer – sustained injuries. The officer was unable to continue his shift.
During investigations, it emerged that the vehicle had been reported as stolen. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
