A drunk 16-year-old Ukrainian attacked and severely assaulted a train driver on the Ottendorf-Okrilla–Laußnitz route on Saturday evening. A passenger stopped the attacker with pepper spray.

On Saturday evening, a situation escalated in a regional train between Ottendorf-Okrilla and Laußnitz in the Free State of Saxony. A drunk 16-year-old Ukrainian attacked the train driver severely and injured him badly.
The incident was triggered by a conductor who photographed the teenager and his companion whilst they were crossing the tracks – a strictly prohibited manoeuvre. The two young men reacted aggressively, boarded the train and immediately began harassing and attacking the staff member.
The train driver rushed to the woman's aid. The teenager then turned against him. He punched him in the face, threw him to the ground and repeatedly kicked him, according to a police spokesman.
Only when a fellow passenger sprayed the attacker in the face with pepper spray did he stop attacking his victim. "The train driver, the conductor and other passengers had irritated eyes and respiratory tracts, but the perpetrator stopped attacking his victim and jumped off the train," the police spokesman told the Bild newspaper.
The teenager did not get far. Police arrested him in a nearby forest. He was carrying, amongst other things, a prohibited folding knife. After questioning, officers took him to his mother. His equally intoxicated companion was handed over to a youth welfare facility.
