Unlicenced teenager speeds at 240 km/h through Lower Saxony

According to Google News AT — Crime (de), an 18-year-old fled from a police stop on Thursday evening in the municipality of Nortrup (Osnabrück district). When he noticed the officers' stop signals, he accelerated his vehicle and drove off in the direction of Kettenkamp.

Police initially followed him with blue lights and sirens. On state and federal roads, the vehicle reached speeds of up to 240 kilometres per hour. Due to the extreme speeding, the emergency service personnel discontinued the pursuit.

Shortly afterwards, the vehicle reappeared in Ankum. There, the 18-year-old is said to have driven through the town centre at speeds up to 100 kilometres per hour and failed to give way to another motorist at a roundabout. Only by braking hard was a collision prevented. Police ended this pursuit as well, as the speed was too high.

Since the officers were aware of possible locations where the man might be, they searched for him in a targeted manner. After they had cordoned off the area, he surrendered. In total, he covered nearly 20 kilometres during his flight – approximately 90 minutes after the pursuit began, he was arrested.

The 18-year-old had no driving licence and repeatedly violated traffic rules during his flight. Police are now investigating, among other things, on suspicion of illegal motor racing as well as driving without a valid driver's licence. Additionally, the officers are seeking other road users who may have been endangered by the young man's driving.
