Knife attack in Leverkusen: victim dies in hospital

Late Tuesday afternoon, a 20-year-old was stabbed in a green area in the Leverkusen district of Schlebusch. According to BILD, the attack was initially preceded by a verbal altercation between the later victim and another man. The situation escalated, the attacker stabbed him and fled immediately afterwards.

Emergency responders resuscitated the seriously injured man at the scene and took him to a clinic. There, the 20-year-old succumbed to his injuries shortly afterwards.

Police search with helicopter and dog

The suspected perpetrator remains at large. Around 20 patrol cars are deployed; officers are supported by a police helicopter and a police dog. According to investigators, the suspect is said to have fled in the direction of Dhünnberg after the act.

Cologne criminal police have established a murder squad. Investigators initially made no further statements regarding the circumstances of the act or the identity of the person sought. The search and investigation are ongoing.
