23-year-old dies after knife attack in Trier
A 23-year-old man died in Trier on Wednesday morning in the area of the Petrsberg during a knife attack. The incident occurred shortly before 10 o'clock on Robert-Schumann-Allee.
Witnesses alerted police after observing an injured person. A man allegedly attacked the victim with a knife and subsequently left the scene. Emergency responders attempted to resuscitate the young man on site, but he died a short time later.
According to police, the attack took place on an open street where numerous passers-by witnessed the incident. An emergency chaplain was deployed on site for the witnesses.
Following a brief manhunt, officers were able to apprehend and arrest a suspect of the same age in the vicinity. According to statements, investigations into the background of the act are still in their early stages.
Police cordoned off a wide area around Robert-Schumann-Allee. The street has since been reopened, and bus services are running normally. The authority is appealing to witnesses to come forward and is asking them to upload any possible image or video material via its own portal – but not to distribute it via social networks.
