A 29-year-old man from the French Moselle region has been found seriously injured in Germany after a week-long search. French authorities are investigating for kidnapping, unlawful imprisonment and attempted murder. This is reported by franceinfo.
The man had been reported missing since 14 May after he was last seen in Falck near Creutzwald. According to relatives, he wanted to visit the mother of his son on the occasion of his son's fifth birthday. Despite an existing right of access, his ex-partner had refused contact for several years. She had now made an exception and invited him to her home.
As soon as the 29-year-old arrived, he was attacked and assaulted by several people in the garage of the house, according to investigators. The perpetrators then took him to a forest near Saarlouis in the German Saarland. There the violence escalated: the victim was stabbed multiple times with a knife. Family members also told local media of burn injuries covering half of his body.
Despite his serious injuries, the man managed to escape from the perpetrators. He crawled to a nearby road, where a motorist discovered him and alerted emergency services. The 29-year-old was admitted to a German hospital in critical condition and underwent surgery on Friday morning.
In the course of the investigation, French authorities arrested two suspects aged 20 and 36 in Remiremont in the Vosges on Thursday morning. Both were presented before an investigating judge on Friday, who is to decide on a possible indictment.
