A criminal trial against a 36-year-old defendant began on Wednesday in Bremen. He is accused of inflicting a deep stab wound to another man's lower abdomen with a knife on the forecourt of the main railway station in January. The victim collapsed and was taken to hospital, where he required immediate surgery.
According to investigators, the attack was preceded by a dispute over money. The defendant is alleged to have given the man a loan and was dissatisfied with its repayment.
Bremen Regional Court has scheduled six trial dates for the proceedings.
