A 40-year-old man was fatally injured during an altercation between members of an extended family in North Rhine-Westphalia. The incident occurred during a family dispute that escalated into a brutal brawl. In the course of the violence, the victim was stabbed with a knife.
Police arrested the suspected perpetrator the same evening at the scene. He is the cousin of the deceased. The man is now in remand custody.
Dramatic scenes unfolded at the crime scene even after the incident. A woman who had desperately tried to revive the injured man sat collapsed on the street for hours, weeping. Her clothing was soaked with the victim's blood. Officers had to dispatch a contingent of police to the location to calm the situation.
