A man caused significant disruptions to rail traffic in Weißenfels on Thursday morning. At around 8.30 a.m., the 57-year-old activated the emergency brake on a regional train and left the carriage to go onto the railway bed.
Train staff immediately alerted the police. While officers assessed the situation, a passing locomotive driver shortly thereafter called emergency services again. He had spotted a man near the tracks at Weißenfels main station.
The railway's emergency management instructed all trains in the area to travel more slowly and proceed "at sight". This resulted in delays to train services.
With the support of Weißenfels municipal authorities, officers were able to locate the man and bring him to safety at around 10.15 a.m. The person affected is a 57-year-old Romanian national.
The responsible federal police have opened an investigation on suspicion of dangerous interference with railway operations.
