A 68-year-old man from the German capital must answer in court for a series of serious sexual offences. The Berlin state prosecutor's office accuses him of meeting women via dating apps, drugging them with sedatives in alcohol, and subsequently raping them. News agency AFP reported on the investigation.
The authority has filed charges relating to offences against 14 women. In total, however, 58 women could be identified in connection with the alleged crimes. According to investigators, the victims had no memory of the incidents.
The crimes are said to have occurred between 2016 and 2022 in Berlin. Investigators came upon the case after police conducted a flat search last March and seized memory sticks. These contained numerous videos documenting the sexual assaults.
The authorities received the tip about the suspect from the police of the state of Lower Saxony, which was investigating similar sexual offences by another man. The two men were in contact with each other.
Since March of this year, the accused has been in custody awaiting trial.
