Before the Sonneberg Regional Court, an Afghan man must answer for a violent assault on police officers. The man is said to have repeatedly struck officers with an iron bar. He is also accused of causing 30,000 euros of damage in a chemist's shop.
Video footage of the incident spread on the internet. Despite the recordings, the court must now question 35 witnesses because the defendant retracted his confession. The evidence hearing becomes significantly more complicated as a result.
A lengthy list of accusations lies against the man. His residence papers also play a role in the proceedings. Both the local district administrator and the justice minister have commented on the case and demanded consequences.
