Berlin: 68-year-old suspected of drugging and raping dozens of women
A 68-year-old electrician from Berlin is suspected of having drugged numerous women with sleeping pills mixed into alcohol and subsequently raped them over a period of years. The state prosecutor has brought charges in 22 cases of sexual assault.

Berlin's state prosecutor has brought charges against a 68-year-old German man accused of drugging dozens of women with sleeping pills and sexually abusing them. The suspect, who works as an electrician, is alleged to have met his victims through online dating platforms and administered them alcoholic drinks laced with sedatives.
The investigators accuse the man of 22 counts of sexual assault. He has been in pre-trial detention since March and has not so far responded to the allegations, according to the news website Telex citing the Guardian.
According to police findings to date, the number of victims could be as high as 58 women. Investigations are ongoing, and not all of those affected have yet been identified. The suspect's name has not been released.
Particularly serious: the man is suspected of having secretly filmed the assaults. Many of the affected women only learned of the crimes when they saw the secretly recorded videos. During a search of the suspect's flat, officers found numerous recordings of sexual assaults.
The police trace to the 68-year-old led through a separate case. Last year, authorities in another German city investigated a man suspected of having committed similar crimes. When evaluating the evidence, they established a connection to the Berlin suspect.
The case recalls the trial of Dominique Pélicot in France, who in 2024 was sentenced to 20 years in prison for years of drugging and raping his wife Gisèle. Also in December of last year, a German court convicted a man in a comparable case.
