Berlin: 68-year-old accused of raping at least 22 women – victims drugged with sedatives
The Berlin Public Prosecutor's Office filed charges on 14 July 2026 against a 68-year-old man accused of committing at least 22 rapes against 14 women. According to the charges, the alleged crimes occurred between 2016 and 2022 in Berlin.
According to the indictment, the accused sought out his victims via online dating platforms. He is said to have incapacitated the women with a combination of sedatives and alcohol, then abused them. According to investigators, the women had no memory of the incidents and were only informed during the course of the investigation.
Police traced the man after an acquaintance of his – who was already under surveillance for rape offences – shared a video of the crimes with him. During a search of the suspect's flat in March 2025, officers secured a USB stick containing numerous videos of sexual assaults.
Investigators believe there are a total of 58 possible victims. However, not all could be identified, and investigations are still ongoing. In one case, proceedings had to be discontinued due to the statute of limitations: a woman is said to have been raped by the man 36 times between 2010 and 2014.
The suspect has been in custody since March. The Berlin Police initially became aware of the case through police in Lower Saxony, who were investigating similar crimes committed by another man who has since died. This man was in contact with the 68-year-old.
