The Berlin state prosecutor has brought charges today against a 68-year-old man. He is accused of at least 22 rapes of 14 women, as well as grievous bodily harm and secret video recording of his crimes.

According to the indictment, the accused sought out potential victims via online dating platforms. He then drugged them with a combination of sleeping pills and alcohol. The women were unaware of the crimes committed against them and only learned of them during the course of the investigation.

The perpetrator has been in pre-trial detention since March. Police discovered him through a video that he himself had shared with an acquaintance. This acquaintance was already being investigated for similar behaviour.

The state prosecutor also assumes that there are a total of 58 victims. However, not all have been identified, or investigations are still ongoing. In one case, proceedings against the man had to be discontinued due to the statute of limitations in relation to a woman who was allegedly raped by him 36 times between 2010 and 2014.
