The capital's state prosecutor has opened criminal proceedings against Sarah Wedl-Wilson. The 54-year-old former culture senator is suspected of misappropriating funds for combating antisemitism. She is accused of breach of trust in a particularly serious case.
Wedl-Wilson had already resigned from her position in spring 2026. The trigger was a scandal involving the allocation of public funds. Now, in addition to the political damage, she faces a possible prison sentence. The law provides for a minimum sentence of six months and a maximum sentence of ten years for the charge.
Investigators are examining whether subsidies for the prevention of hatred against Jews were used unlawfully. Wedl-Wilson had served only briefly in office before she was forced to give up her post due to the allegations.
