Attack on Preilack electrical substation in Germany
Several homemade explosive devices were discovered around 08:00 at the Preilack electrical substation in eastern Germany, La Libre reported. This site distributes electricity produced by the neighbouring Jänschwalde power plant. A police spokeswoman confirmed the information to AFP.
At least one of the devices exploded, but the others did not function. No injuries were reported and no major power outages were recorded in the region, according to the same source.
The power plant operator, LEAG, stated in a communiqué that "an attack was carried out against the Preilack electrical substation, through which the electricity produced at the Jänschwalde power plant is fed into the network". The company also reported a "technical failure" in a unit of the power plant, specifying that a possible link with the incident was under examination.
Network operator 50Hertz for its part confirmed that unidentified perpetrators would have damaged several lines. "There was a brief service interruption. All lines are now back in service. The general electricity supply is not currently affected," it stated in a communiqué.
At this stage, no information has been communicated about the identity of the perpetrators or the motives for this attack.
