According to police, the perpetrator overpowered and threatened the woman shortly after 22:00. According to statements from residents, the supermarket manager is said to have seen a weapon – however, the police have not confirmed this so far. Nothing is yet known about the condition of the woman.
The deployed officers are in contact with the hostage-taker and are attempting to resolve the situation peacefully. A police spokesman said to the German Press Agency (dpa) in the early hours of Saturday morning: "He is still in the shop at the moment. We have police officers on site. The operation is still ongoing."
The supermarket is located on Hildburghauser Straße in the south of the city. The surrounding area has been cordoned off widely. Police vehicles, ambulances and heavily armed members of specialist units can be seen outside the building. The man's motive remains unclear.
