Outbreak of violence in Völklingen: police intervene in group conflict
On Wednesday evening, a dispute in the Saarland city of Völklingen escalated into a physical altercation. At approximately 19:45, two larger groups met in the town centre and came to blows. In the process, at least one person involved sustained injuries, though these did not result from a firearms or blade weapon. The injured person was admitted to hospital.
The local officers felt overwhelmed by the situation and called for reinforcements from the neighbouring cities of Saarlouis and Saarbrücken. Additionally, the police special unit was alerted. It was not until around 21:30 that the tense situation calmed down again.
Shortly before one o'clock in the morning, another emergency call came in. However, this did not lead to further physical attacks.
The police initially made no statement as to whether any persons were arrested or investigative proceedings were initiated.
