Robbery in Lower Luisenpark: perpetrator at large
As reported by mannheimer-morgen.de, an unknown man tore a gold chain from a pedestrian's neck on Saturday evening at around 18:00 in the entrance area of the Lower Luisenpark in Mannheim, at the corner of Goethestraße.
The unknown man approached the victim briefly before an underpass and spoke to him in German. As the pedestrian did not understand the language sufficiently, he attempted to signal this – whereupon the perpetrator attacked him physically. He struck the man with the flat of his hand against the chest and attempted to knock him to the ground. During the ensuing struggle, he snatched the gold chain from the victim and fled on foot in the direction of Kopernikusstraße. The chain is worth approximately 300 euros.
An immediate manhunt was unsuccessful. Police describe the perpetrator as approximately 170 cm tall, around 20 years old, athletically built, with a strikingly round, childlike-looking face and dark hair. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a white t-shirt, short black sports shorts and white trainers.
Witnesses who observed the incident or saw the perpetrator in Luisenpark or in Kopernikusstraße are asked to contact Mannheim's criminal investigation service on 0621 174-4444. Any other police station will also accept information.
