Since Friday evening, a man in a Berlin supermarket has been holding a woman hostage. Police are deployed in massive numbers on site and are attempting to defuse the situation.
"At the moment he is still in the shop. We have units on site. The operation is ongoing," a police spokesman told the German Press Agency (dpa) early Saturday morning. The emergency responders are in contact with the hostage-taker, but his motives remain unknown so far.
The supermarket where the hostage-taking is taking place is located on Hildburghauser Straße in the southern district of Marienfelde. Police have cordoned off the area widely.
